"Daisy Chain" - Pixey and Tayo Sound
Lenny
“Daisy Chain” answers the question — what if you just took an old(er) song and recorded new lyrics over the top of it. It also answers the question — what if this re-make/re-do was actually better than the original? When you fire up “Daisy Chain” your first inclination will be that the wrong song is playing. That, instead of “Daisy Chain,” your music player somehow pulled up “Steal My Sunshine” by Len. Remember that alt-hit from the 90s? But no, you are, in fact, listening to a track that came out in 2023, and not 1999.
Pixey & Tayo Sound, however, take that hooky nugget, and wrap an entirely new song around it. It can’t help buy have the same vibes as “Sunshine,” in part because so much of the original is ingrained in their take. But their new flourishes and words spring out of your speakers and into your ears. Even if you thought “Steal My Sunshine” was musical canon, and it should never be trifled with, you’ll quickly abandon those notions. This is a pure dance-pop gem. Give in to it.
There really isn’t a whole lot else to say about “Daisy Chain.” It’s Friday, the end of the work week. You deserve a fun song. So close the laptop, put in your earbuds and fire up your phone. Press play. And feel this sunshine.
